Make Vista run faster, drop the eye candy
I’ll get to my Vista update post in a bit, but as I’ve been playing with it, while I love the eye candy of transparent windows, things that slide in and out of view, it really isn’t needed. I’m not so extreme as to swtich to the ugly Windows 3.1 look and feel, but I have toned things down a lot. No transparency, limited animations and effects. Is it making a difference? Yeah, a little. I notice that my RAM utilitazation is a little trimmer.
Now, adjusting the effects is essentially the same as under XP. Go to control panels and choose Performance Information and Tools. Click Adjust Visual effects. Play around with all the effects so you can decide what you really like and want to keep and what is just window dressing (I like the glowing highlight on window buttons myself, so that stayed).
Vista still looks great without all the eye candy, and when your friends come over, just turn it on for them to wow them.
