Strategy and tactics: How to Pimp Your Work

by Scot Herrick on January 19th, 2007

What's Your Strategy? This past week, I’ve written about the characteristics of successful strategies, tactics and that execution is the key to success of a strategy.

Business oriented.

But there is another key to strategy and tactics: how can you Pimp Your Work using these same successful characteristics of strategy and tactics? Just because the principles outlined here apply to business doesn’t mean that they can’t be used in your personal life.

What strategy do you want to have for your career? Do you want to retire by the time you’re 55? Be away from corporate life and work on your own? Be a CEO because you want the control over a corporation?

All of those long-term goals require a strategy to get there. Wanting to retire at 55 doesn’t make it happen. Instead, you need to develop a strategy to get there. Work and invest in real estate? Write a best selling novel? Become a CEO? All are possible strategies for getting there.

Most people, including this Pimp, don’t develop the strategy or strategies that would enable them to do what they want in their career. And because we don’t, we have no way of evaluating the tactics we are using in the workplace to determining if we are personally succeeding. Maybe we can determine if we’re succeeding for the company, but I’m talking about succeeding for ourselves.

My birthday is coming up. I’m seeing some strategies in my future.

Pimp Tip: Apply the successful characteristics of strategy and tactics to your personal career and life.
