What motivates you?
Our motivation to work reveals a lot of things about us: our priorities, our goals, and our obligations.
A friend came over for lunch yesterday and asked me about my work. I explained to her that most of my work is done via telecommuting - that I don’t need to leave home to do it.
She told me that this is something she could never do, as it would be difficult to find motivation when no one is keeping an eye on her.
She asked me “What’s your motivation for working?”
Without thinking, I just said this:
“I love doing it.”
I was both surprised and glad at my answer.
How about you? What motivates you to work?

A little something called a paycheck. LOL
But seriously, it’s knowing that the work needs to get done, and I’m the only one who can do it. I do love my job, but I know it’s tempting to stray when the laundry is calling, or you’ve got food shopping to do, or Oprah has a special guest. The great thing about telecommuting is that you can take those breaks, and you can always go back to your work later. Granted, you’ll be up at 11pm still working, but it’s a trade-off.

Good point. I tend to schedule laundry and grocery shopping, and I don’t watch TV. I do love DVDs, but I use them as rewards when I’m done with work. Most of the time, anyway. ;)
The paycheck also inspires me, of course, and that’s one of the criteria I use to prioritize projects that have equal personal value to me (I like both projects equally, but one pays more than the other, for example).
