Yes, Vista and Office 2007 will be able to be downloaded live
As a follow up to my Vista article, I tracked down info on being able to download, buy, and install both Vista and Office 2007 online. DownloadSquad has some information, but Microsoft’s info is good too.
Essentially they are going to use some smart downloading technologies to manage it all. Of course, you’ll want to burn those ISOs to CD/DVD when you get them, not to mention write down, print, maybe even tattoo the access keys.
Related to this I installed my RTM Office 2007 Pro today. Yeah, I decided to take the plunge. So far? Not bad. Took about 2 hours to install. Thus far I’ve only been dealing with Outlook. I’ll get to the other apps eventually. I played with Beta 2 for a while of course. I liked it then, and I suspect that I’ll like the final version too. BTW, ClearContext in Outlook 2007, just wow.

It pleases me to hear that the first thing you did post upgrade to 2007 was install ClearContext. That integrated RelatedView is awesome, if I do say so myself! Enjoy the product.

Actually Brad, I think I did one better. I already had CC installed in Outlook 2003 … and just upgraded. I was figuring it might break … nope! Worked great!

Two hours to install and that’s considered “Not Bad”???!!
Wow - I figured the two-hour install was the Beta 2 code, but if RTM is still two hours, wow…Microsoft is pushing the limits of patience with that one…

Well, I figure with all the Office 2003 stuff to ditch and new stuff to install …
Hey, at least you don’t have to switch floppies anymore!
Pimp Your Work - Tip for installing software–be patient

[…] Okay Office 2007 took a long time to install. It was an upgrade after all, so I’m not too surprised with the length. While it was installing I took a break from the computer for a while and would check back on it once and a while. Man this is sure taking a while … more than a few times I thought the install had stalled and I was going to need to cancel it (sometimes this isn’t a good idea, like with Office installs). Which reminded me of the big software install maxim: patience. You just have to wait. I can’t count how many times I’ve thought an install has gone south and just before I killed it, something happened. […]
