Best Blog Articles - November 12, 2020

by Scot Herrick on November 12th, 2006

We love to read as well as write here at PYW. Often, we write about what other people are saying and extending the conversation. Other times we just wish we wrote the article in the first place and can do nothing but provide great kudos to our fellow business bloggers.

We’re handing out kudos here.

Every week, I’ll try and give you a good selection of what I consider to be the best blog articles I’ve read during the week - and if you have seen others, please put them into the comments so they can be shared with other readers here at PYW.

So ease yourself back into the work week by checking out great ideas and writing from people I admire out here in the blogosphere.

Here are this week’s selections:

If your career pursuits include becoming a CEO of your company, Worldwide Success offers up Corporate Career Success - How to become a CEO. Included are 22 character traits for becoming a person leading a company.

Mike Wagner of Own Your Brand thinks companies go after change only if they survive the heart attack — and then compares Safeway’s profit recovery to that of a heart attack survivor doing rehabilitation. Its an interesting comparison and can be found at Heart Attack in Aisle 6!

Starbucker reminds us to slow down when we’re going too fast as part of Ramblings From a Glass Half Full. Check out what an “Under Toad” means in today’s life over at Watch Out for the Under Toad!

Finally, for those entrepreneur wanna-be’s, Pamela Slim speaks to the importance of knowing “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggonit, people like me!” She shares with us some of what she is teaching in a new class about small business owners on how to “get over the fear of playing big in the world and building a strong, unique and compelling brand.” As often the case, what’s good advice in Escape from Cubicle Nation is good advice for the rest of us as well.

Hope your weekend was as great as mine!

    Hey Scot,
You picked some great ones here! One that I didn’t know. Makes think I’ve slacking or something . . . I’m going to have to start following you around again. :)

Thanks…this posting is the most fun for the week because I let myself (allow myself…) to go running around the blogosphere seeing what I can find.

    It’s an adventure.

So Scot, are you Lewis, Clark, Boone, or Crockett? :)

I’m half of Lewis and Clark — all adventure and mapping the terrain. Since I used to live in Wisconsin and now in Washington state, Lewis and Clark made it through both places, so it seems an appropriate match.

    Scot,

Very encouraging to have you pick up on my Safeway post. It means a lot to me!!!

And very helpful to explore the other postings you have found.

All your recommendations stir my thinking in one category or another. And we all need our categories stirred!

    Keep creating,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

The Safeway article comparing it to recovering heart attack patients was really a unique perspective. Much of your writing is and I really appreciate it.

Besides, I have a vested interest — I shop at Safeway and it has been interesting to see how the store changes and the service has changed since the ‘heart attack.’

    Thanks for stopping…

Scot, Safeway has a special place in my memories. It was the one of the three stores I feverishly checked to see if the new Batman, Superman and Justice League of America comics were in.

Every Tuesday had me racing between the three on my bike to see who put the new editions out first.

Beyond that they all looked the same to me! grin

    Keep creating…it freaks people out,
    Mike

Scot, thanks a bunch for the link. Sometimes it’s good to share our little embarassments - I actually felt much better and in control of the “Under Toad” after I wrote this post. If it can help anyone else avoid that monster, all the better. All the best!

    Hi Terry,

That’s why we write, isn’t it? We get to get a little control over the “Under Toads” in our life.

Thanks for coming over; we appreciate it here at Pimp Your Work.

Mike - I didn’t get involved with Safeway until they bought Dominick’s in Chicago-land. But I moved to Illinois from Wisconsin not so long ago before moving out here to the Pacific Northwest.

I remember moving out here and my Dominick’s card worked at Safeway…a total surprise to me since I didn’t know that Safeway owned Dominick’s.

They didn’t have any comics four years ago when I moved out here. I missed out on those bike rides you had!

    Scot
