Best Blog Articles - October 22, 2020

by Scot Herrick on October 22nd, 2006

We love to read as well as write here at PYW. Often, we write about what other people are saying and extending the conversation. Other times we just wish we wrote the article in the first place and can do nothing but provide great kudos to our fellow business bloggers.

We’re handing out kudos here.

Every week, I’ll try and give you a good selection of what I consider to be the best blog articles I’ve read during the week - and if you have seen others, please put them into the comments so they can be shared with other readers here at PYW.

So ease yourself back into the work week by checking out great ideas and writing from people I admire out here in the blogosphere.

Here are this week’s selections:

Liz Strauss over at Successful Blog has been researching and keeping posts on Net Neutrality for a long time, including two full pages of links on it. Today she works with an essay that describes the seven core issues that encompasses net neutrality. The perspective of the Internet having “intelligence at the edge” where all the computers are — like mine — was a great visual for me. Proponents of regulating the Internet want to control that intelligence because it controls innovation.

An informative historical look at credit cards is offered up at Confused of Calcutta in the article Numiscartomancy: Divination using credit cards along with some predictions for the future. It’s business too in the sense that credit cards today are the result of “innovation through market adoption, simple and relentless standardization, consolidation amongst industry participants, and emergence of global mega-utilities.” Sound familiar?

Gumption takes a look at the beginnings of the soft side of technology in a great introduction to “spiricomp” for using technology to enhance spirituality. While early on in trying to figure this out, the article offers some good insight into an area evolving like everything else. Spiritual Computing: Toward Meaningful, perhaps Transcendental, User Experiences.

Principled Innovation writes persuasively that There’s more than pain, arguing to not “be defined only by my problems and motivated only by the need to solve them.” Instead, we should focus on creativity and innovation to make the work better in the future and ridding ourselves of much of the pain in the process. While oriented to associations, this is an article that hits the bullseye for business leadership as well.

Finally, Jeffrey Phillips who writes Innovate on Purpose gives a great series of posts on his experience at the Innovation Immersion conference where he provides brief reviews of the speakers and their main points on innovation. Start with Innovation Immersion Wrap Up and work back from there.

Enjoy your week.

    Hey, Scot!
Thanks for noticing! It’s not something folks want to talk about much. I’m hanging on until the merger. Then maybe . . .

Scot, I truly appreciate the plug for my post. You’re absolutely correct that while my focus is on associations, the same way of thinking should apply to other organizations. The more we focus only on pain, the less room we leave to create alternatives to it.

Thanks for reading. I hope future posts will make your list as well! ;>)
